Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto
Officially created in 1911 by decree-law of February 22, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) descends from the Régia Escola de Cirurgia do Porto, created in 1825 by D. João VI.
Currently, FMUP teaches the Integrated Masters in Medicine course and participates in teaching the Nutrition Sciences course at the University of Porto. Promoter of 18 3rd cycle courses/Doctoral Programs, the Faculty also teaches 17 2nd cycle/Masters courses, 12 Specialization courses and 12 Continuous Training courses.
With around three thousand students in the various teaching cycles and a highly qualified teaching staff (50% with doctorates), the Faculty develops and promotes its institutional relationships within and outside the country, as evidenced by the various protocols signed with renowned institutions. .
Record holder in research production, its contribution to the advancement of science applied to Medicine is undeniable, evidence of this being the data relating to national scientific production, which reveal FMUP’s leading place in the production of knowledge. This faculty remains faithful to the demanding reputation it has earned among its students. It is this rigor that underpins the excellence of the doctors he trains. The excellence of the teaching it practices, its intense scientific activity and its care practice are key points in the life and name of this institution, which has been awarded consistently with the preference of students who aspire to a career in Medicine.
